How to Auto-shutdown your PC (Windows 7 with Pictures)

There are many ways to Auto-shutdown your PC.
I will give you example using the Windows Built-in program called Task Scheduler

First click on the Start and type "Task Scheduler".

When the Task Scheduler window appear, click on Create Basic Task

Write a name for your basic task.

You can choose scheduling of your task. The example here I chosen is One Time only.

Then set the Date and Time when you want to shutdown.

Browse for "shutdown.exe" located at C:\\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe, then type in the Add Argument "/s"

After this your shutdown task is finished. You can view, edit or disable/delete your task by clicking at the Task Schedule Library.

How to Remove Shortcut Virus using CMD?

Shortut Virus is a Virus/Malware that hides your files inside a shortcut. Commonly on USB Pendrives. It doesn’t harms your files but later on, it may make themcan be a result of being corrupt or even delete all the files; depends on the type of shortcut virus.

There are many ways to delete/remove shortcut virus like using REGEDIT, WinRAR, VBScript File, other Programs like USB Fix. For now I will show you how to delete these viruses using Command Prompt(CMD), which was built -in on Windows Operating System.

Steps on how to Remove Shortcut Virus using CMD:

• Just run CMD by clicking Windows + R (shortcut key for run), or click the Start Menu then type in cmd.
• Type the Drive letter of your USB Pendrive then followed by "colon". Ex:  "I:" (without quotation),
• Then type in "attrib -s -h /s /d *.*" then press enter.

• Wait a moment then check your USB Pendrive.
• Congatulations!

Meaning of codes above:

Attrib specifies the attribute (as you might have guessed it)
-H is to unhide all the files on Flash Drive (which were hidden as shortcuts due to the virus)
-R is to create the files in your Pen Drive (recreate the shortcut files retrieving the original contents)
-S makes all the file on your USB drive not to be the part of system again (which makes it easy to do the process)
I: (example drive letter only) is the Drive Letter of your USB Pendrive

Prevent Programs from Starting up when Windows starts

Programs running at your computer at once can be a result of slowing down your computer or even crash. As computer boots, there are some programs running that we don't know and Some of these hidden programs are essential, but most aren't. To increase your computer's performance, turning off unnecessary programs on startup can be a big help.


There are many programs like CCleaner that can control programs from running when your computer starts. Windows OS has a built-in program called "Microsoft System Configuration Utility" or simply "MSCONFIG". This is designed to troubleshoot your computer and also ensure that your computer boots faster and crashes less.


How to use MSCONFIG (in Windows 7)?

• Click on windows start button or press (windows + r) key the type "msconfig" then press "enter".

• This will launch the Microsoft's System Configuration Utility then click on the Startup.

• Now you can disable programs by unchecking the box from the left.

Most of the startup items you see in Windows 7 are completely optional and can be turned off. But when you're in doubt, only those programs that you recognize and don't need to have running all the time. In my example, I remain only the antivirus and netlimiter running on startup.

• After that, click on "Apply" and then "OK". An option will appear if you want to restart your computer or not. Changes will apply after you restart your computer.

This process is almost the same in Windows XP. You only have to click Start then Run and then type msconfig.

How to Format USB Flash Drive Using Command Prompt (CMD)

Windows Operating System has a program for formatting USB. However in some cases, formatting does not work with these programs. There are some viruses that are not cleaned after formatting and still remain in the USB.

Then try formatting your USB using Command Prompt or CMD.

Follow these steps in formatting using cmd:

• Insert your USB and note for the drive letter (ex. E; F; etc.)
• Press  Windows Key + R then type in "cmd" (without quotation), or you can click on the Start Button and type "cmd".

• Then type in "diskpart".

• A new window will appear and type in "list disk".
• Choose the number of your USB drive.

• In my example, my drive is in Disk 2 so I typed in "select disk 2".
• Then type the following :
• "clean"
• "create partition primary"
• "select partition 1"
• "active"
• "format fs=fat32"

• Wait for it to become 100% complete.
• Exit the program and Congratulations!!! You've done formatting your USB Drive using Command Prompt!
